Meet Our Residents

Self-Assigned Supervisor of Everyone
Maggie
A driven and dedicated community member, always on the lookout for where extra backup is required and ready to jump in and help. Being part red healer, she comes by her "always on duty" work ethic honestly. Although a late bloomer with their soccer skills, she has developed some expert footwork of late!

The Fab Five Felines
Mabon, Phyllis, Birdie, Ash & Katniss
The fabulous five felines responsible for rodent deterrence at the sanctuary, along with providing a lot of licks and snuggles! Birdie, pictured here, is a soft and gentle spirit. You will surely receive a warm welcome when you're met by at least one of these lovely greeters upon your arrival to the sanctuary.

The Holstein Cow
Nova
Rescued at just two days of age from a dairy farm that was closing down, Nova was spared from the torturous life of repeated impregnation and grieving lost offspring suffered by female cows in the dairy industry. Instead, through a life of love and kindness, Nova has matured to be basically a giant puppy with horns. She is extremely social and wants to hang out with you, regardless of what you're doing. Watch out when you get close, though, as you could be in for a big lick from her very long and agile tongue!

The Pigs
Peter & Ella
Whether 200 or 2000 pounds, all pigs, regardless of size, simply cannot resist the insatiable delight of a belly rub. Brilliantly intelligent, clean and highly social, pigs have a complex culture all of their own. While both are very friendly, Peter loves to meet new people and tends to hog the attention.

The Horses
Jazz, Garden, Dayton & Perry
Pasture-mates of Nova the cow, these three pals are always hanging out together. Though Jazz and Garden are inseparable, Dayton is never very far behind.

The Minis
Katy & Smith
These two have been together since arriving at the sanctuary over 13 years ago. Donkey Smith is the brave herd protector, and although mini horse Katy is the cautious observer among humans, she is definitely the boss mare among her equine counterparts.

The Goats
Eddie & Brian
A dynamic brother duo who have been with us since 2022. Their curiosity and sense of adventure keeps us laughing and always on our toes!

The Sheep
Maxwell & Mary
Max & Mary, a bonded sibling pair, came to live at the sanctuary in 2022. They are as hilarious as they are sweet and gentle. Watching them jump for joy is a true delight! Rescued from a mini-animal hobby farm, they came to us nameless and very unsure of human interaction, but with a slow, gentle & kind approach, w

The Chickens
Flock of Many
Sunshine, pictured here, has taken on the role of "mother hen" to the chicken flock of thirteen hens and five roosters - each to be added individually soon. Most have been rescued from backyard egg producers, discarded at the age of just 2 or 3 years as their egg production naturally slows, some of whom only knew a tiny cage for the first years of their life.

Goose
Rae
Goose Rae is a beautiful soul inside and out, and enjoys the company of the horses and anything with a big rubber tire (ie. wheelbarrows/tractors). Goose Rae loves her fresh pools and takes her bathing and grooming routine very seriously.

The Bourbon Turkey
Atom
A beautiful, fierce protector of his flock, Atom is always on guard and as such does not make friends easily with new human folk, so needs to be given his space. Seen basking in the sun on a warm summer day, he can even appear quite demur.

The Pigeons & more
Loft community
The sanctuary is also home to a community flock of pigeons and a variety of other native bird species. Though not technically "rescued", they are able to find sanctuary in the vast loft of the hundred-year-old barn on the sanctuary grounds, and enjoy the abundance of fresh food and water always available at the sanctuary.

Founder
Alex
Sanctuary founder, Registered Nurse, long time vegan and environmental steward with a passion for animals of all kinds and growing food using a variety of regenerative practices. On a journey of healing self and others by aiming to model living a healthful, compassionate and sustainable life.

Facilities Director
Katie
Sanctuary budget and grounds keeper with a passion for maintaining manicured grounds and an exceptional drive and ability to motivate and inspire others to work toward a mutual project or goal. She and the sanctuary tractor have become nearly inseparable.
